Lady Plainsmen Volleyball Season Preview
August 1st has brought another season of Lady Plainsmen Volleyball to us.
[BORGER - August 10, 2023]
Another season is upon us as August 1st marked the opening date for volleyball to start practice. Head Coach McKenna Clement, who is entering her second season at the helm of the Lady Plainsmen Volleyball program, was busy on the road recruiting. She was needing to fill 12 roster spots that were being vacated by sophomores, all of whom are signed to play at a 4 year school this coming season.
On Saturday we were able to get a preview of just what all these freshmen would look like as they hosted a inter-squad scrimmage to try and build some in game cohesiveness and learn to play in front of a crowd. There was some strong leadership shown by the 2 returners Imahni Brown and Nevaeh Rodriquez as both of them were helping guide the young freshman through the ups and downs of the scrimmage.
Looking to improve upon a 16-13 (8-6) record, the Lady Plainsmen have been hard at work in this early preseason. “I’m proud of how far the freshmen have come and they are not playing like freshmen.” - Coach Clement The Lady Plainsmen will look to make their marks early before beginning conference play as they travel to play in a few tournaments. The season opener is a tournament in Garden City, KS beginning August 18th. The conference schedule begins with a trip to reigning WJCAC champions NMJC in Hobbs, NM, September 13th. We won’t see them in a home match until Saturday Sep 16th as they host conference opponent, Western Texas College.
Some key dates on the schedule include:
September 20 at Clarendon College
September 30 at Amarillo College
October 7 vs New Mexico Junior College
October 14 vs Clarendon College
October 25 Amarillo College
October 28 New Mexico Military (Sophomore Day)
You can catch them in action this Saturday, August 12 in the final scrimmage as they take on Garden City Community College at Fritch High School at 1:00 PM
