Lady Plainsmen off to Historic Start

Lady Plainsmen are off to a historic start!
The 23-24 Lady Plainsmen hoop squad is off to a historic start marking an 11-1 record in the first semester. This is sure to be, at least in recent memory, the best start for the Lady Plainsmen. Under new leadership of Head Coach Gerald Ewing, the Lady Plainsmen are looking like a formidable opponent on the national scale.
The 11-1 record started on opening night, November 1, as they took down Western Oklahoma State College with a 40-point plus victory at home. Their lone loss came 2 nights later, on the road, to NOC-Enid in a close fought battle. Most teams don’t lose at home which the Lady Plainsmen have not done all semester thanks to a great home crowd in the BCAC, but winning on the road is crucial to the makings of great teams. The Lady Plainsmen have done just that by winning 6 games in opponent’s gymnasiums with the last game before the break at Ranger ending in a 67-63 victory.
The Lady Plainsmen have had every type of win imaginable including blowouts, normal closeout games, and even buzzer beaters. They have averaged nearly 76 ppg on almost 50% shooting. They are shooting the 3-ball at a high level and outrebounding teams in almost every game. This complete team effort to win games does not come without some great individual efforts. Ayuen Akot has been the most consistent for the Lady Plainsmen which marks her as the team’s leading scorer at 17.6 points per game. The point guards are running the offense smoothly and Bahar Kalkan is leading the team with 5.7 assists per game. Leading rebounder is the tough inside presence of Solenne Olenga with over 10 rebounds per game making her a walking double-double each night as she is averaging 13.8 points per game as well.
The Lady Plainsmen begin the second half of the season with 3 more non-conference games, the first 2 being on the road in the Region V Nort vs West Classic. Game 1 is Jan 2nd against the host school, #2 nationally ranked Collin College Cougars followed by a game on Jan 3rd against Grayson College. They will finish out the non-conference schedule with a home matchup against Redlands College on January 8th.
