Lady Plainsmen Earn a Split with Western Texas
[BORGER – March 27, 2022]
The Lady Plainsmen hosted Western Texas College for a 4-game weekend series at Johnson Park.
The Lady Plainsmen had rough start to the weekend. In Game 1, the offense was off the mark. The lone bright spot was Yessenia Pena, who went 2 for 2 in the game but could not get brought in to score. The pitching was on point despite the 2nd inning where the Westerners brought in 6 runs. The fielding was in part to blame allowing 2 errors that allowed runs to cross the plate.
Game 2 saw the Lady Plainsmen seemingly look defeated on the day as they allowed 12 runs to come across early in the 1st inning. After they were blanked in the bottom half of the first, the Lady Plainsmen dug in and scored 9 runs while only giving up 8 more. The 1st inning was just too much to overcome, and the Lady Plainsmen were swept on the day.
Game 3 was started off as the first 2 games were, having the Lady Plainsmen down early. Going into the bottom of the 4th inning the Lady Plainsmen were down 4-1. The offense struck lightning scoring 3 in the 4th and 4 more in the 5th taking the lead 8-4. Poorbaugh was able to finish the game off even with a scare in the 7th, that gave the Lady Plainsmen their first conference victory 8-7.
In Game 4, The Lady Plainsmen gave up 1 run in the top of the 1st. However, picking up where they left off in game 3, the Lady Plainsmen erupted for 12 runs in the bottom half. Then next 2 innings went smooth with both teams not allowing a run. The Lady Plainsmen finished off the day scoring 8 more runs in the bottom of the 4th bringing the score 20-1. Amber Poorbaugh earned another win on the year only giving up the 1 score on the day going all 5 innings in the run ruled victory giving the Lady Plainsmen a split for the series.
The Lady Plainsmen will be back in action for a midweek double header on the road against Rose State College. Follow them on Gamechanger.
