Bio
Troy Potts is in his first season as an assistant coach at Frank PhilIips.

Prior to his arrival in Borger, Potts spent six seasons (2018-2024) as a part of the Quincy University staff. QU is an NCAA Div. II school located in Quincy, Ill.

He started his career at Quincy serving as student director of basketball operations from 2018 to 2021 while attending class as a full-time undergraduate student.

Potts assisted the coaching staff with practice planning, gear management, equipment organization, travel itineraries and planning camps.

He also played an integral part in the development of Tanner Stuckman, a first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection now playing overseas.

Potts next served as graduate assistant coach for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons at QU. During the 2022-23 season, Potts assisted the program in returning to the GLVC Tournament for the first time in six seasons.

A coaching change late in the 2021-22 season gave Potts -- as a grad assistant -- an opportunity to share head coaching responsibilities and the Hawks responded with a 3-2 record to close out the season.

The Quincy, Ill., native was elevated to assistant coach/head junior varsity coach on June 12, 2023.

Potts graduated with a Masters of Business Administration degree in May 2023 after completing his undergraduate degree in business management in May 2021.

Academically, Potts was awarded the Bonaventure Medal, one of the highest honors awarded by QU.

Potts also served as a coach with Michael Porter Junior Elite during the 2024 summer season.

Potts is a 2018 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, where he was a two-year letterman on the basketball team.

QND compiled a two-year record of 47-12, winning two regionals and made an Illinois Class 2A Elite 8 appearance in 2016-17. After that season, the team's coaching staff selected Potts as recipient of the prestigious Raider Pride Award.
