Coach Hunter Jenkins is entering his first year in Borger, TX as the Head Men's Basketball Coach. Prior to his arrival he was recently the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Clarendon College for four seaosns. Bulldog basketball rose to new highs under his leadership. His 2024 Bulldogs finished in the Region 5 Championship Game. Coach Jenkins team boasted a loaded roster featuring the #1 Ranked Junior College Player in the Nation, Dior Johnson, as well as 7 other Divsion 1 signees. The 2022-23 Season Finished with a 25-5 record and a second-place finish in the WJCAC and #18 national ranking in the Final NJCAA Poll. The Bulldogs were awarded the conference player of the year, defensive player of the year, as well as 4 all conference selections. The season was highlighted by 5 nationally ranked wins, 13 home wins, and a national team of the week recognition, all of which are school records. Clarendon Basketball ranked top 10 nationally in numerous defensive rankings in the 2022-23 Season. In his first season on the sidelines at Clarendon, the Bulldogs completed one of the best seasons by a first-year head coach in school history. The Bulldogs boasted a Top 10 offense in the nation averaging 90 points per game and a 4th place finish in the WJCAC. Under Coach Jenkins leadership, Clarendon College was awarded the WJCAC Freshman of the year award as well as 2 First Team All-Conference Guards, as well as moving on 3 sophomores to Division 1 programs. During Coach Jenkins tenure, Clarendon College has been top 10 nationally in the amount of players moving on to Division 1 schools, with over 35 since his hiring in 2020.

Prior to Clarendon, Coach Jenkins was an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo. While serving as one the youngest Division 1 assistant coach in the country, Jenkins helped the Bulls reel in an impressive recruiting class. Jenkins signed ESPN 4-Star Guard, Chance Robinson in the 2020 Recruiting Class; The 2019 Class included, David Nickelberry the #21 Ranked Junior College Player in the Nation, as well as Josh Mballa (Texas Tech Transfer) who went on to break the school record for rebounding in his first season. 

Jenkins was hired at Buffalo after serving as an assistant coach at Odessa College. In the 2018-2019 season, Odessa went 28-7 and 14-2 in the WJCAC winning the conference title, in one of the top junior college conferences in the nation.  The Wranglers advanced to the Elite Eight of the NJCAA Tournament.  Jenkins coached North Texas guard James Reese, who was a third-team junior college All-American that season, as well 7 other Division 1 Players.

Prior to working at Odessa, Jenkins was an assistant coach at Trinity Valley CC where he recruited and signed the #1 ranked junior college player in the nation, Wendell Mitchell, who was named an NJCAA All-American and went on to star at Texas A&M. The Cardinals finished the season with a 28-5 record and a Sweet 16 Finish in the NJCAA National Tournament, and sent 7 players to play at the Division 1 Level.

Prior to coaching at Trinity Valley, Jenkins served as a graduate assistant coach at Texas Tech under Big 12 coach of the year, Chris Beard. While in Lubbock, Jenkins was a part of a staff that upset two top 10 nationally ranked teams. Also during Jenkins tenure in Lubbock, the Red Raiders reeled in an elite recruiting class that included 2018 NBA Lottery Pick, Zhaire Smith as well as 2019 Lottery Pick, Jarrett Culver. That Texas Tech staff included 3 assistant coaches who went on to become Division 1 Head Coaches.

Jenkins has also had a stop in Ruston, Louisiana where he was a graduate/student assistant for two seasons at Louisiana Tech. Jenkins received the opportunity to learn under current University of Georgia Head Coach, Mike White, in his first season for the Bulldogs. In his final season on the bench at Louisiana Tech, Jenkins aided current Bulldog head coach Eric Konkol. Louisiana Tech posted and impressive 50-19 record during Jenkins two years as a Bulldog. 

In 2017, Coach Jenkins was voted one of the top 15 diamond in the rough college coaches according to coachstat.net.

Coach Jenkins has had the opportunity to learn under some of the top coaches in college basketball. Hunter has worked under 10 current Division 1 Head Coaches in his career. Chris Beard (Ole Miss), Mike White (Georgia), Eric Konkol (Tulsa), Dusty May (Michigan), Matt McMahon (LSU), Darris Nichols (Radford), Tony Skinn (George Mason), Jordan Mincy (Jacksonville), .

A native of Palestine, Texas, Coach Jenkins won a state championship in 2010 playing for his father at Cayuga High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University and has a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas Tech University.
