The Midland College Chaparrals made the journey to Borger for a double header matchup which marked the first home conference match for both the men and women. The women's game up first, was an exciting matchup as the women would battle back and forth in the first half with the Lady Plainsmen taking a five-point lead into the half. The third quarter saw the Lady Chaps take a 2-point lead as it seemed like the Lady Plainsmen were running out of gas. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Plainsmen seal the 55-47 victory by outscoring the Lady Chaps by ten points. The Lady Plainsmen on a cold night from the field only shooting 34% were led by two freshmen, Elise Turrubiates with 17 points and Linda Brice with 13.
The second leg of the doubleheader saw the men's team do battle. The Plainsmen were off to a fast start which garnered the m a 12-point lead in the first half. The Chaps would cut into that lead heading into the half only down 5. The Plainsmen came out flat in the second half and couldn't find a shot to fall as they only scored 16 points in the second half. Turnovers were also a huge factor in what plagued the Plainsmen as the y gave the ball up 22 times throughout the game and the Chaps were able to score 28 points off those turnovers. The Plainsmen gave up triples in the 70 -52 loss. The Plainsmen had a lone bright spot in one double digit scorer in DJ Richardson as he dropped in 11 points and added 5 rebounds. CJ Ray added 9 points and Adeola Seun added 8 points.
The next matchups for both teams have the men's team in a home matchup with Lamar College at 6 pm on Tuesday. The Lady Plainsmen will be in action as they host a classic beginning Friday December 10. The Lady Plainsmen will take on #22 Casper College on Friday at 7 pm and Life Prep Academy on Saturday at 3 pm.
