Ewing Tabbed to Lead Lady Plainsmen Hoops
[BORGER - August 11,2023]
We are pleased to welcome Gerald Ewing to take over the Women’s Basketball program.
Coach G is joining us after previously being on staff at Texas A&M - Commerce. He has a long, tenured history of experience at multiple levels of college basketball. Prior to Commerce he was an assistant coach at UT-Arlington for the two seasons after Covid. He was also the recruiting coordinator in Arlington.
He spent 8 years in Athens, TX at Trinity Valley with the final 6 seasons as the leader of the program. While he was in charge, the TVCC Lady Cards garnered a 168-26 record winning 5 out of 6 conference titles, 2 regional titles, as well as a 16-5 National Tournament record where he appeared in 3 national championship games. His first 2 seasons in Athens, he was the assistant coach on 2 national championship teams, leading the development of the guards which saw multiple NJCAA All-Americans from the program.
“We are very excited to have Coach G be a part of our culture and atmosphere here at Frank Phillips College.” Athletic Director Jason Sautter said. “When the position came open, we called multiple coaches from all over the country, from various levels of college basketball, and the one name that was a consensus was Gerald Ewing. As someone who has coached in five different national championship games in his tenure, he understands how to be the type of servant leader we were looking for to guide our women’s basketball program.”
