Four Plainsmen Hoopers Earn Post-Season Awards
[BORGER – March 22, 2023]
The basketball season is. Winding down with national tournaments all over the country and even though your Plainsmen are not playing in them, there are a few Plainsmen that have been rewarded for having great seasons individually.
There is one Lady Plainsmen that received votes for the WJCAC All-Conference First Team, Xoe Rosalez. Xoe comes to Frank Phillips from Seminole, TX and had a breakout freshman campaign where she finished 3rd in overall scoring leaders for the conference at 16.0 ppg. She also averaged 3.8 rpg and 2.9 apg. After having a strong freshman season, she will be turning some coaches’ heads as a sophomore when she returns to Borger next season.
Three Plainsmen from the men’s side joined Xoe in earning All-Conference Selections. These three young men were Will Hynes, Melquan Collins, and Chris Mpaka. Will Hynes joined the program from Ballarat, Australia where he finished the season with 14.5 ppg while shooting 51% from the 3. He also added 4.1 rpg and 3.5 apg as a point guard. Melquan Collins, a 6’6 Forward from Brooklyn, NY poured in 11.8 ppg. His high motor allowed him to grab over 5 rebounds a game as well. The final Plainsmen to earn these honors is Chris Mpaka. The 6’9 Forward from Congo was able to contribute 9.6 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Hynes and Mpaka are both freshmen who will be returning to Borger next season which allows the coaching staff to build around 2 of the top players in the entire conference.
As an athletic department we could not be prouder of these four honorees as they have earned these selections through all their hard work and dedication. The future is bright for these young student-athletes.
