Plainsmen Hoops Split with Odessa

The Lady Plainsmen looked to continue their wining ways against Odessa College after picking up a road win on Thursday.
The Lady Plainsmen had an early tip today as it was MLK Day, and they picked up right where they left off from Thursday and came out with an imposing defense that held Odessa to 19% shooting in the first quarter and gave the Lady Plainsmen a 5-point lead. The second frame saw Odessa knock in 5 three pointers to head into halftime all knotted up at 29. The Lady Plainsmen came pout of the break and clamped down the defense yet again and did not allow Odessa to make another three pointer the rest of the way. The Lady Plainsmen went up in the third quarter by 6. The fourth quarter saw much more of the same as teams traded buckets, but the Lady Plainsmen were able to hold them off and walk out of the BCAC with a 64-56 victory.
The Lady Plainsmen had two players reach a double-double mark. T’Aaliyah Miner had a game high 23 points and 12 rebounds and Elise Turrubiates posted a 16 point and 11 rebound mark. They were joined in double digit scoring by Linda Brice with 17 points and she also had 5 assists.
The Plainsmen came into Monday’s game looking to turn things around from their loss on Thursday as they came out on fire and took an early 7-point lead withing the first 5 minutes of the game. Odessa, who is ranked at Number 21 in the NJCAA polls, was able to counter that quick start and end the half on a 7-0 run to take a 7-point lead into half. In the second half the Plainsmen came out blazing yet again and scored 10 straight points to take the lead back going into the first media timeout. The Plainsmen were bitten by the turnover bug with 15 which led to Odessa scoring 22 easy points off those. The Plainsmen were also outrebounded tonight which led to 14 second chance points for Odessa. The second half was evenly matched, but that wasn’t enough for the Plainsmen to come away with a victory as the final score was 73-66 in favor of Odessa.
The Plainsmen were led by 3 players each scoring 13 points, Jaheim Tanksley, CJ Ray, and Adeola Seun. Tyrese England got into double digit scoring with 10 points. Leading rebounders for the Plainsmen was Adeola Seun and DJ Richardson with 4.
The Plainsmen will be back in action Thursday, January 20, 2022, for a double header conference matchup on the road with the women tipping off at 5:45 pm (MST) with the men to follow.
