Lady Plainsmen Fall, Men's Hoops Win

The Lady Plainsmen tried for 3 straight victories on Thursday night as they went down to Hobbs, NM to take on New Mexico JC.
The Lady Plainsmen dug an early hole as the NMJC press bothered the Lady Plainsmen all night as they ended the game with 27 turnovers. NMJC was able to capitalize off those turnovers and score 38 points off those alone. The score at halftime was 41-15. The second half showed some improvement from the Lady Plainsmen, but the deficit was never in any danger of shrinking. The final score was 71-40.
The Lady Plainsmen had a lone double-digit scorer in Linda Brice as she dropped in 11 points. Rachel Emmanuel was the team’s leading rebounder as she grabbed 7 boards.
The Plainsmen came into Thursday night’s game coming off a tough home loss to nationally ranked Odessa. The Plainsmen came out on fire shooting the ball from deep as well as creating havoc defensively and took a 47-33 lead into the break. In the second half, NMJC was able to battle back as it looked like the Plainsmen would give up another double-digit lead. NMJC was able to go up by 1 with a minute to go, but the Plainsmen scored the final 6 points off defensive stops to win the game by five 80-75.
The Plainsmen had 5 double digit scorers which were led by DJ Richardson with 17. Tyrese England followed with 15 points. 3 other Plainsmen were tied with 14 points in Aiden Gair, CJ Ray, and Jaheim Tanksley. DJ Richardson also led the team in rebounding with 8 followed by CJ Ray with 7.
The Plainsmen will be back in action Monday, January 24, 2022, for a double header conference matchup on the road in Snyder, TX with the women tipping off at 5:45 pm with the men to follow.
