Shorthanded Plainsmen Split with Clarendon

The shorthanded Lady Plainsmen saw their first action since returning from their trip to Arizona by dropping their matchup with Clarendon 76-67.
The Lady Plainsmen are coming off a missed game due to players being in Covid protocols and had half of their girls return to action fresh out of quarantine. The Lady Plainsmen came out quick and took a 5-0 lead before Clarendon was able to settle in and take a 12-point lead in the 1st quarter. The Lady Plainsmen were still knowing at the heels of Clarendon the entire game. The Lady Plainsmen were able to cut it to six points with 4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter before Clarendon was able to pull away with some clutch shooting from deep and icing the game at the free throw line. The final score was 76-67.
The Lady Plainsmen had 4 scorers in double digits with Elise Turrubiates earning yet again another double-double. Turrubiates had 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Plainsmen also had T’Aaliyah Miner score 17 points, Linda Brice had 15 points, and Aisja Strachan added 12. Rachel Emmanuel was able to snag 14 rebounds.
For the men’s game, the shorthanded Plainsmen earned a home conference victory against the Clarendon College Bulldogs 108-82.
The Plainsmen, for the third straight game had key players due to Covid protocols this evening as they welcomed Clarendon College into the BCAC. Coming off an overtime loss to South Plains the Plainsmen were ready to get back to work. In the first half the plainsmen started off strong getting out to a hot start and kept a fast pace early. Clarendon was able to battle back tying the game at 27 all as the game went into the second media timeout with 7 minutes to go in the first half. The Plainsmen were able to end the half scoring 28 more points that was capped off by a buzzer beating half court heave from Jaheim Tanksley. The Plainsmen led 55-40 at the half. In the second half the Plainsmen kept rolling as they were able to shoot nearly 70% from the field for the game and only missed three triples for the game. The game was never in doubt as they kept a double digit lead the entirety of the second half. The Plainsmen were able to break triple digits on the scoreboard with the final score 108-82.
The Plainsmen were led by 3 huge contributions from Jaheim Tanksley scoring 30 points and adding 4 rebounds. DJ Richardson had 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. Adeola Seun had 18 points, 8 boards, and 1 block. CJ Ray was able to grab 9 boards and Aiden Gair shot 3-3 from deep.
The next action for both Plainsmen teams will be Thursday, January 13, 2022, for a double header conference matchup against Howard College with a 5:45 tip off from the women followed by the men at approximately 7:30.
